No one suspected that India with its 100 million population and a host of infrastructure and population related problems would become the outsourcing hub to the world. On the top of that, Knowledge Process Outsourcing to India is at an all time high from United states despite the hullaballoo about outsourcing, loss of jobs and recession. In fact, statistics reveal that with the job losses mounting in US, small businesses are outsourcing to India for a cheaper price in order to stay afloat.
Most US based Internet Marketing Companies, Web Design, Web Development or Logo Design organizations outsource their work at a rate of $ 10 - $15 to India, and charge $35 to $50 per project hour from their US based clients. Most Website Design and Development organizations, animation services provider, graphics services organization in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento based companies outsource their low end work to Indonesia, Phillipines or even rural US. However, all the high end software development, Internet Marketing SEO, Website Design, Logo Design, Brochure Design, PHP, MYsql, and LAMP based technology work is sent to Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Gurgaon or Mumbai in India.
Having worked in a KPO with processes like Microsoft Small Business Server, based out of Gurgaon, my previous organization had planned to outsource some technical assistance to Phillipines. However, when our team of Technical Trainers were in Phillipines, it was discovered that despite the better English, technical know how and education level in Phillipines was not quite upto the Indian standard. Also, hiring a 1000 troubleshooting engineers in other Asian countries is practically impossible. In the end, low end work was outsourced.
The same issue exists with outsourcing to Indonesia or other South Asian countries. Their spoken English is better, however, they cannot compete in sheer numbers or with the skill, knowledge competency of Indian Developers or Engineers.
200,000 Engineers graduate every year from Indian universities. The number is boggling. Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, Dell, hp now have in house Knowledge Process Outsourcing centers in India. Its not the price, its the skill and the numbers. Microsoft can hire 3000 Support Engineers and train them easily. Hiring 3000 Support Engineers in US is practically impossible. The number of science and engineering graduates are far less in the States.
Whether it is software outsourcing, graphics, design or Internet Marketing, India still remains the top destination for SEO services.
If you are reading this, it is probably because you know the numbers and you have done the math. The IT-ITES industry is set to touch 9.3 billion dollars despite the recession and employees a million IT graduates. Outsourcing industry is slow but not down and set to employ millions of young educated Indians in the next few years.
According to a Mckinsey report, it shall also earn India more dollars by 2010. With the changing profile of BPO, KPO and ITES sector, work prospects and growth prospects are slow but not dead!
No wonder, most Internet Marketing companies are outsourcing, and offshoring to in house or third party vendors in India.
